Terms of service

Last updated 24 October 2026

These are the rules for using Transmit. By making an account you agree to them. We have tried to write them plainly. If something is unclear, write to [email protected].

Who can use it

You must be 13 or older. If we think an account belongs to someone younger we will hold it and give you two weeks to contest before we remove it. A parent or guardian can ask us to delete a young person's account: write to us and we will check it is really them.

What is and is not allowed

This is a place for friends to talk. We do not police ordinary language: swearing, crude jokes and heated arguments between people who are fine with each other are not a reason for us to step in.

We will act if you:

  1. Share anything illegal or seriously harmful. This includes any sexual content involving a child (we report this to the authorities), content that sexually exploits anyone, sharing intimate images of someone without their consent, terrorist content, fraud and scams, threats of violence, and harassing, stalking or bullying someone. Pornography and other sexually explicit material are not allowed either, because young people use this service. We do not go looking for it: we act when it is reported.
  2. Encourage self-harm.
  3. Dodge a decision. Making a new account to get around a suspension or ban.

Blocking and reporting

Everyone can block anyone at any time, and report a message, a person or a server as breaking these terms, as illegal, or as something else. A person reads every report. A report does not mean we will remove something, and swearing on its own is not a reason.

What we may do

We may remove a message or file, suspend an account for a number of days, close an account, or delete a server. We tell the person by email what we did and why. The email has a link they can use once, without signing in (a suspended person cannot), to appeal; a person looks again and emails the answer. If an appeal succeeds a suspension or closure is lifted, but a removed message or deleted server cannot be brought back. They can also write to [email protected]. We tell the person who reported that we looked at it. We do not tell the person reported who reported them.

Private conversations

We do not read private messages or private servers. We look at a conversation only when someone in it reports it, and then we see the reported message and the messages around it (a few at first, and more if we need them to understand it).

Calls and recording

Transmit does not record voice or video calls or streams. We cannot stop someone recording their own screen or audio, though, so assume anything you say or show in a call could be recorded by the people in it. Do not record other people without their consent, and do not share a recording of someone without their permission: doing so breaks these terms. Soundboard clips are short audio files people upload to play in calls; do not upload someone's voice without their consent.

Your account and your content

The service

We run Transmit with care but cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or stop features, and we will give notice of changes that matter. [[TO CONFIRM: liability and governing law wording, to be written with a solicitor.]]

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, or the privacy policy, in a way that matters, the app will ask you to read the new version and agree to it again before you carry on. We keep a record of which version you agreed to, and when.

Contact

Questions, appeals, reports and privacy requests: [email protected]. [[TO CONFIRM: LLC name and registered address]]

For authorities and regulators (including orders to remove illegal content): the same address. It is read by a person, and we answer in English.
